ON HOLIDAY WITH GRANNY AND GRANDAD
A multi-generational getaway in the north of Deux-Sèvres, not far from Puy du Fou, including a visit to an ostrich farm, a treasure hunt in the Château de Bressuire, and nature walks at the Clos de l’Oncle Georges, Hautibus lake, the garden of Cistus and the Auzay footbridge.
Bury your head in the sand !
During the holidays, after 2 days at Puy du Fou, Granny and Grandad took me to Sèvre autruche. I had never seen ostriches so close up, they were like velociraptors! And their eggs are enormous. We had fun in the giant maze, I found the exit first. We had a picnic next to the shop for lunch and Granny bought some ostrich paté. After that, we did a treasure hunt at the château de Bressuire. Dame Jeanne’s husband has gone to join King Louis XI, leaving her alone at the château. Before leaving, he hid some treasure which meant the château could be rebuilt and Dame Jeanne needs help finding it. So, we helped her! In the evening, we ate duck at a farm which serves meals (it was delicious!) and we slept in a straw hut, unusual accommodation, on a farm, Les Noues de Puy Jean. It’s cool to be lost in the middle of the countryside, soothed by the sound of the animals!
In the heart of nature: at the Clos de l'oncle Georges !
In the morning, we went to the Clos de l’oncle Georges. It is a Sensitive Natural Area with lots of wild flowers, nesting boxes and insect hotels, an old sheepfold and stepping stones over the river. I walked 1.2 km and didn’t moan once. Granny and Grandad were very proud. For lunch, Granny had chosen the restaurant du lac d’Hautibus with a terrace overlooking the water and children’s games. In the afternoon, we strolled through the jardin de Cistus garden and on the Auzay footbridge. We got as far as the fairytale tree by following the trails on stilts which wound through the trees, so cool !
WHERE TO SLEEP AND EAT, WHAT TO DO?
Have you ever dreamed of flying with with ostriches? Right this way...
