GETAWAY FOR PRINCES
AND PRINCESSES

Who has never dreamed of becoming a princess or a prince? On this break, you’re immersed in the Middle Ages: a night in the dungeon of a medieval castle, a visit to a garden, a fortress and Parthenay, a town of art and history.

Week-end en amoureux dans un cadre médiéval

1ST DAY

Romantic and royal !

To celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, I surprised Lucie by taking her away for a romantic weekend. Friends had told me about the château de Tennessus, which has medieval style rooms, but with all modern comforts. They were absolutely right and we felt the magic immediately as we crossed the drawbridge! We stepped back into the Middle Ages with the château visit, boat trip on the moat in period costume and a dip in the swimming pool (a little less medieval)... In the evening, we enjoyed a generous gourmet picnic, served in the garden, filled with flowers, before retiring to our Royal room, with a carved four-poster bed, at the top of the 14th century keep. A real fairytale

# MEDIEVAL MARVELS

Just as you imagine a fortified castle to be, Tennessus reminds visitors of the former prestige of Aquitaine. Deux-Sèvres is full of remarkable medieval sites. Towns and villages, such as Parthenay and Mauléon... or châteaux like Saint-Mesmin and Coudray-Salbart... which plunge you into history, and the time of brave knights.

2ND DAY

Medieval day !

Next morning, we headed for the Jardins du Gué, classed as a Jardin Remarquable. A beautiful and relaxing place, with the Thouet flowing through the centre. Follow the river to Parthenay, a superb Ville d’Art et d’Histoire®, known as the little Carcassonne of the west. We strolled through the perfectly restored historic centre, with its narrow, cobbled streets and half-timbered houses. After lunch in this delightful medieval town, we set off for the château of Saint- Mesmin. Between the entertainment and the magnificent restoration work carried out, it’s a real gem! We got caught up in finding the clues and becoming an investigator for the Minister of magic at the Château de St-Mesmin, watched by the amused costumed guards. We had great fun testing the catapult, battering ram and fencing… We even learnt how to do some calligraphy! Next time, this fortress will definitely be somewhere we will visit with our daughter because it is a paradise for children.

# discover PARTHENAY

Set off from the Maison du patrimoine then follow the Thouet along the path by the impressive ramparts which joins the Faubourg Saint-Paul. Follow Rue Mermoz to the roundabout to return to the upper town. Head towards the Porte de l’horloge then join the Rue de la Vau Saint-Jacques, one of the most beautiful in the citadel with many half-timbered houses. At the end, there is the unmissable Porte Saint-Jacques, which gives you a great view of the old town. From there, take the Rue du Château, then the Rue de la Citadelle to access the château ruins and the church of Sainte-Croix. To finish, enjoy a drink on the terrace at the la Place des Bancs.
